Pinned It Made It Monday Week 13

Last week I shared THIS basket that was inspired by THIS pin which was inspired by THIS pin which was made from a paper plate. Ü

Well, scoring and cutting a circle is not all the easy, as you need to have 90 degree angles. So as I'm making the first one, I'm thinking "why not score the cardstock BEFORE punching into a circle?"  WA-LA it worked!

The pink check is from Fancy Pants' Hopscotch line and the flower paper and embellishments are from My Mind's Eye. The ribbon is vintage seam binding.

Here are the scoring measurements I used to do this...

On a 12" x 12" sheet of cardstock, score one edge at 3",
turn 90° and score at 4.5"
turn 90° and score at 3"
turn one last time 90° and score at 4.5"

**note: the reason I didn't score at 3" and then at 9", then turn and score at 4.5" and 7.5" as this *should* have given the same size is that not all cardstock is exactly 12".  So this way each end has the same measurement and the center which will become the bottom of the box measures approximately 3" x 6"...possibly a hair smaller if the paper isn't exactly 12" x12".

After scoring, I then punched the sheet into a circle using WeR Memory Keepers Lucky 8 Frilly Lace punch.

Then fold all the edges on the score marks already made and THEN cut on the 3" score lines opposite each other like shown on the tutorial. (the instructions say to cut 2.5", but you lose 1" when punching into a circle, so that is why I scored at 3")

Finish putting together as the tutorial showed.

11 cookies fit perfectly in the box, so I'm thinking maybe add 10 and a couple of tea bag packets for a fun gift.

If you don't have the Lucky 8 circle punch, just cut a large scallop like this one from Cutting Café's Circle Scallop file. I just enlarged the scallop circle to fit my scored 12" x 12" paper and cut, then finished it out just like the others. I used one of my flowers from CC's Paper Flower Template. I believe this is my favorite box so far.

The cookies are Molasses Cookies and I use our apple molasses that we made a few years ago when we had soooo much cider from out bumper crop. After the deep freeze was full and over flowing and we gave gallons and gallons away to friends and family, we boiled a huge canner full of apple cider down until it was thick molasses. I love the flavor it gives these cookies. You can use any molasses to make them though.

Molasses Cookies
3/4 c. margarine, softened
1 c. white sugar
1 egg
1 T. water
1/4 c. molasses
2 1/4 c. flour
1 t. baking soda
3/4 t. ground cinnamon
1/2 t. ground cloves
1/4 t. salt

Preheat oven to 350°. Cream margarine, sugar, egg, water, and molasses. Add dry ingredients; mix well. Shape into balls and roll into sugar. Place on greased cookie
sheet and bake 8-10 minutes.

Tombow is Hopping with MME

I love My Mind's Eye! They are so generous with the goodies they sent. It was hard to decide what to make so I made a few things to share today. I still have bunches of goodies left, so will be able to lots more papercraft projects in the days to come.

For my first project I created this fun basket made with my new toy; WeR Memory Keepers Lucky 8 punch, MME's lovely designer paper from their Now and Then Dorothy line. Such pretty spring colors (even though we got snow yesterday!) to play with and get one in the mood for spring to come.

I used Tombow's Extreme Adhesive to hold the box together. The tutorial for this box can be found here & here

The tutorial shows you can fit cookies into this box and I had planned to make some, but Wed I had a root canal and things didn't go so good, so in too much pain to bake. Then I thought why not see if my biscotti will fit. It does! Perfectly!! I placed 4 biscotti (2 cranberry orange pistachio and 2 cranberry pistachio) along with 4 French Vanilla tea bags. I will definitely be creating many more of these boxes to go with my homemade biscotti that I've been making lately.

For my next project, I created more of these little boxes using the Envelope Punch Board and this video. They are super easy to make and even easier using MME's Now and Then Dorothy designer papers and chipboard & brad embellishments along with Tombow's Extreme Adhesive .

Cutting Cafe Flower Pot Card

This week is all about flowers on Cutting Cafe. We were challenged to use either the Flower Pot Shaped Card or Sentiments Stems and Flower Tops file.

I chose to go with the Flower Pot Shaped Card file. This file was so much fun to play with. The hardest part was deciding which papers to use.
I decided to go with a green background to the cut flowers and off set the flowers a bit so that it would look like leaves behind them.

For the dots in the middle of the flowers I punched 2 circles from chipboard (AKA Pop Tart box) and one from the patterned paper to give more dimension. I also rolled the petals with a crochet hook (you could use pencil, paintbrush, etc) to also give dimension to the flowers.

Pinned It Made It Monday Week 12

I have 3 yummy recipes to share today that come from Pinterest. After making the biscotti last week, I've been on a biscotti kick. DH is even eating them with tea (we are not coffee drinkers) and youngest DS is home for spring break and I have him eating them too.

Here is Cranberry Orange Pistachio Biscotti pinned from here. The only thing I did different was to add orange juice (from the orange) to the almond bark that I melted to dip the biscotti in (they showed to drizzle on top).

and just Cranberry Pistachio that I got from here. I baked for 25 minutes, then cut and layed on one side for 10, turned over and baked another 10 rather than what they said. They would have been burnt crisp if I would have baked them as long as they said to.

All 3 were absolutely delicious and I will keep making them.

Orange Cranberry Biscotti
Recipe TypeBreakfast

Serves: 1 dozen
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest, about 2 medium oranges
  • 1 teaspoon good quality vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup dried cranberries
  • 3/4 cup pistachios, chopped
  • Optional
  • White chocolate for drizzling
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and spray with non-stick spray.
  2. In a mixing bowl, sift the flour, baking powder and salt.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar, about three minutes.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time until fully incorporated, about a minute each.
  5. Mix in the zest and vanilla, about one minute.
  6. Slowly add in sifted ingredients a little at a time until throughly mixed.
  7. Fold in the cranberries and pistachios.
  8. Place your dough on the parchment paper. Shape it into a 9″ x 4″ slab.
  9. Back for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool for about 20 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 300°F.
  10. Once cool, cut your biscotti in 1/2″ thickness and lay cut side up on the cookie sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, flip the biscotti onto the other cut side and bake for another 15 minutes.
  11. Allow to cool completely.
  12. Optional: drizzle white chocolate.
Your dough will be sticky, so spray your parchment paper with baking spray or brush with a little melted butter. This will allow you to use the parchment paper to shape your biscotti without the paper (or your fingers) sticking to the batter.
Do not rush to cut and re-bake your biscotti before it has a chance to cool, dry and set. Using a serrated knife will make your task easy.
Cutting your biscotti any thicker than 1/2″ will take longer to dry, and may not set properly.
Store your fully cooled biscotti in a re-sealable zipper storage bag.  Remember they keep if stored right, so make a few batches at a time.

Cranberry Pistachio Biscotti
Delicious, festive Cranberry and Pistachio biscotti dipped in Vanilla candy coating! Perfect for holidays.
6 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup dried cranberries (Craisins)
1/2 cup shelled pistachios, chopped
8 oz white chocolate candy coating (vanilla Candiquik), melted
1. Preheat oven to 350 degree F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, set aside.
2. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter with sugar until combined, about 2 minutes. Add in eggs and
vanilla. Slowly add flour and baking powder. Mix until thoroughly blended. Fold in cranberries and
3. On prepared baking sheet, shape dough into a 12 inch by 5 inch rectangle, that is about 1/2 inch
thick. I use a little extra flour on my hands to keep the dough from sticking.
4. Bake for 25 minutes. Remove from oven. Using a pizza cutter or serrated knife, slice biscotti into
12, one inch wide slices. Lay each slice on it's side, separating them on the baking sheet. Bake an
additional 10 minutes. Flip biscotti to opposite side and bake another 10minutes. Remove and
cool completely before frosting.
5. To garnish, dip bottom of cooled biscotti into melted vanilla candy coating. Set on parchment paper
(candy coating side DOWN) and allow to dry/set. Once set (about 15 minutes) store in an airtight
container or ziploc bag for up to two weeks. ENJOY!

Orange Scones
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 35 minutes
Yield: 12 large scones
    For the scones:
  • 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 6 Tbsp unsalted butter, cubed, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 tsp orange extract
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp orange juice
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  1. For the scones, combine flour, sugar, salt and baking powder in a large mixing bowl. Add in butter. Mix using the beater blade of an electric mixer until it resembles coarse crumbs (you can also use a pastry cutter, if you prefer).
  2. Add in egg, yogurt, orange juice, orange extract and orange zest. Combine completely.
  3. On a large baking sheet with parchment paper (or silpat), shape dough into a large rectange (about 9inch x 7inch by 1/2 inch thick). Use your hands to pat dough, it will be sticky. Sprinkle with flour to make it workable.
  4. Using a large knife or pizza cutter, slice dough in half then cut into thirds (vertically) creating six rectangles. Cut each rectangle in half to make 2 triangles. You will be left with a total of 12 triangles. Don't separate them on the baking sheet yet!
  5. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 25 minutes. Remove from oven and re-cut your triangles carefully. Separate and return to oven for an additional 10-15 minutes. Remove and cool completely before glazing.
  6. For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, orange zest and orange juice. Spoon glaze over each cooled scone, allow to set, about 15 minutes. Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days. ENJOY!

BFB Miss Brenda and the Loveladies

Miss Brenda and the Loveladies by Brenda Spahn and Irene Zutell is a heartwarming true story that I rec'd as an e-book.

I LOVED this story! Brenda fights for the female ex-cons from an Alabama prison in a home that she called the "whole way house". A place for the women to go to learn how to be in the real world as most of them had spent 20 years in prison. This came about as she almost went to prison herself.

It brings their stories to life and gave me a whole new look on women in prison and how we all have our own "addictions" and problems, but they just got caught.

Miss Brenda wanted a safe home for these ladies that had a God centered place of love and hope. Miss Brenda tells her own story in this book and how she learned as much from the ex-cons and they did from her.

I highly recommend this book. It will make you think twice before judging why they land in jail and what their lives were like before they went there.

The past 2 weeks they had milk for $2.99/gal, Wishbone dressing for 99¢, and 32 oz bag of shredded cheese for $5, so I had him pick me up some. I always keep Italian dressing on hand to marinate chicken breasts in and then grill them.

*bag of baby carrots for 69¢

*hot dogs for 59¢; normally wouldn't have bought these, but had my nephews over and they like them. Bought buns on sale for 99¢

*ordered a photo book thru Shutterfly with a coupon code and only had to pay shipping. This was my first time and can't believe how long it took. I have great respect for those that do this regularly.

For my project, I created a box using this tutorial. The flowers and sentiment are from Stampendous' Thoughtful Wishes clear stamp set. The center of the flower are from their Vinyl Sticker sheets in silver.

I stamped the flowers onto designer paper and then colored with coordinating Dual Brush Pens for shading. The box was put together using Xtreme adhesive. Using strong adhesive is important when making boxes so that the sides don't come apart and your goodies fall out.

Pinned It Made It Monday Week 11

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Today I have a couple of recipes to share with you. Over spring break I had my two little nephews staying with me and I told them we would make sugar cookies. The oldest decided we should make them with M & M's, so half of the recipe was made with them and the rest were plain.

We rolled them out and cut them into shamrock shapes. The baked, frosted and added sprinkles. This is the recipe that I used from Pinterest. They were okay, but not really my favorite.

I sent the M & M cookies home with the boys and sent the others with Benjamin, Kassy and created some for Aaron as well.

Then I made cookies for grown up...oh my!!! Chocolate Orange Biscotti. My first time ever making biscotti and I will be making it lots more! I created these using this recipe. I had one with hot chocolate last night and it was soooo yummy! I sent some of these with Kassy to have with her coffee.

The only thing I did different was after cutting them, I baked for 10 minutes then turned and baked 10 minutes instead of just baking for 20 minutes after cutting. I had read other recipes that said to turn them, and am glad I did, because I think they would have gotten too dark on one side.

SOOOO sooo yummy! Can't wait to try some of the other recipes that I have pinned for biscotti.

Kassy and I have decided we need to open a shop. I will make bistcotti, cupcakes, breads and she will make the flavored coffees. Ü

Chocolate Orange Biscotti by Shugaryweets(with my changes in baking)

Chocolate Orange Biscotti
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes
Yield: 16-18 slices
    For the Biscotti:
  • 6 Tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp orange flavoring (extract)
  • 1 orange, zested
  • 2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • For the Garnish:
  • 1 orange zested
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk chocolate, melted
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until combined, about 2 minutes. Add in eggs, orange extract and orange zest. Slowly add flour and baking powder.
  3. On a parchment paper lined baking sheet, shape dough into a 12inch by 4 inch rectangular log, patting evenly (will be about 1/2 inch high). Bake for 25 minutes. Remove from oven and slice biscotti into 16-18 slices. Arrange slices on their sides, leaving a little space between each slice. return to oven and bake an additional 10 minutes, turn them over and bake another 10 minutes. Remove and cool completely before garnishing.
  4. When cool, drizzle melted chocolate over each slice. In a small bowl mix the zest of one orange with the sugar, using a fork. Sprinkle immediately over the melted chocolate. ENJOY!\
**To drizzle chocolate, pour melted chocolate into a small ziploc bag. Snip off the corner and drizzle over biscotti.

One of the things I love about Meg Moseley's books is that you aren't sure how it is going to end. A Stillness of Chimes is no exception. I stayed up way late a couple of nights to keep reading and guessing and had no idea it would end the way it would.

A Stillness of Chimes is about Laura Gantt, a teacher in CO, who comes home to GA to settle her mother's affairs after her death. Her father disappeared 12 years earlier and believed to have drowned on a fishing trip. Now rumors are swirling around that he has been seen.

Laura and her ex-boyfriend Sean try to find the truth about what really happened 12 years ago. Sean believes Laura's father is really dead, while Laura is beginning to believe the rumors.

I highly recommend reading this book. I received this e-book for free from Blogging for Books for this review.

Cutting Cafe Shaker Cards

This week on Cutting Cafe the Design Team is creating  Shaker Cards. We had 13 different images to choose from. So much fun and so hard to choose, but I finally went with this fun canning jar image.

I used some new designer paper I bought from Hobby Lobby...a 6 x 6 My Mind's Eye Collectable "Remarkable" Paper Pad. Love the colors and the blue reminded me of an old blue Mason jar and the floral of  vintage fabric.

I used the center piece that cut out from the jar for the inside to stamp a birthday sentiment on. The sentiment  on the outside of the card comes from Every Day 1 Inch Greetings.

Pinned It Made It Monday Week 10

I have a fun Pinterest project to share with you today. I have made soooo many of these now. I am calling them "Neckarfs"...necklace meets scarf

It is an Etsy post, so just went to YouTube and typed in crochet rope necklace and found different posts to tell how to do it. It's just basically a chain stitch that you do with your hands and then make as long as you want and start looping to the length you want. I then left a long strand of yarn and wrapped all the loops together to tie it off.

Here are just a "few" that I've made and given as gifts and sold. I still have several left for sale that I need to take somewhere to sell...either a store or craft show.

I have a solid gray one that I forgot to take a picture of that I wear. I like that it goes with anything that I wear with my blue or gray jeans.

Frugal Friday 3-7

Frugal ways we saved that last 2 weeks

* earned $15 in Swagbucks

* in-store coupon for milk $2.99/gallon (any kind), used it on Monday when they have "milk Monday" where milk is 50¢ off and they took another 50¢ off the coupon sale (wasn't sure they would)... so I got a gallon of whole milk (normally over $4) for $2.49. We don't drink whole milk, but DH likes homemade ice cream and we will use it for that.

* friend gave me leftover cheese, crackers, chips and carrots from ladies nite out

* bag of spinach for 99¢, bought 2 of them. Will eat as a salad and put some in recipes that I make

* bought curtains and curtain rods for the living room, oreos for homemade ice cream, plus some fabric for a shower decorations with Walmart swagbucks and it was all free. The look on the guy's face behind me was priceless as I handed the check out lady my sheets of paper with the swag codes on them and walked away without paying a dime. The checkout lady was a bit befuddled too as she followed the instructions on the sheet and it shows I owed nothing. That was a lot of fun! It has been YEARS since I've had curtains in the living room. It looks so different couch, chair and curtains....♥ it! Now to save up for the other rooms...

* used swagbucks to order scented oils for our next batch of soap...also completely free

* downloaded free books onto my Kindle

*finally had a nice day yesterday, so did all the laundry and hung it on the line...just in time too because it's suppose to rain and snow today!

  • Echoes of Mercy by Kim Vogel Sawyer was another of my favorites of hers. I love the author's style of writing and I've read several of her books.

    Echoes of Mercy is set in the early 1900's and takes place in Lincoln, Ne as the story opens. It's always fun to read a book with a story from your home state.

    This story centers around an "accident" at the Dinsmore's World-Famous Chocolate Factory. Caroline Lang works undercover at the factory to see if she can find out what really happened to a coworker.

    The factory employs several children and being an investigator for the Labor commission, Caroline also fights for their rights to be children and attend school.

    The factory's heir Oliver Dinsmore, is also working undercover, to understand how it all works before taking over.

    As you can imagine, the two meet and emotions collide as they feel they are fighting against each other for what they believe.

    This book kept me turning the pages and I highly recommend it.

    On My Mind

    It is soooo cold outside, but inside, I’m thinking spring! I am looking forward to getting a garden started whenever we get rid of this frigid cold weather.
    Today’s post features a very springy card. I have lots of fun layers with the doily (adhered with Mono Adhesive Dots), paper flowers (adhered with Xtreme Adhesive) and button centers (adhered with Power Tabs).

    Pinned It Made It Monday Week 9

    For today's Pinned It Made It, I made a dish that I had pinned quite some time ago called Where's The Crust Pizza. It was very yummy and I will be making this again.

    I put mushrooms, hamburger, and sausage on mine. We had a little of each left over from other dishes, so it was perfect to use up on a pizza. I used homemade pizza sauce that I canned from our garden tomatoes this summer.

    Where's The Crust Pizza
    1 (8 oz) package of full fat cream cheese, room temperature
    2 eggs
    1/4 tsp ground black pepper
    1 tsp garlic powder
    1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

    1/2 cup pizza sauce
    1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
    toppings - pepperoni, ham, sausage, mushrooms, peppers
    Garlic powder

    Preheat oven to 350.
    Lightly spay a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray. With a handheld mixer, mix cream cheese, eggs, pepper, garlic powder and parmesan cheese until combined. Spread into baking dish. Bake for 12-15 minutes, our until golden brown. Allow crust to cool for 10 minutes.

    Spread pizza sauce on crust. Top with cheese and toppings. Sprinkle pizza with garlic powder. Bake 8-10 minutes, until cheese is melted.
