Just a Note

Happy Tuesday! Today, I have a fun card to share with you. I stamped the floral image onto a page out of an old Anne of Green Gables book. I have my own Anne of Green Gables book, but this was an old one that was found in a pile the library was giving away.
101_2992 (900x675)
I colored the image with Irojiten Color Dictionary Pencilsand then went around the whole image with Dual Brush Pen 491-Glacier Blue. I added a few white dots with a gel pen. I like using Tombow's Mono Glue Stick when adhering newsprint or papers that stronger adhesive sometimes tears. It is also easier to add glue to the whole panel so that it doesn't buckle up. I used Mono Adhesive Permanent to adhere the rest of the layers.

Tomorrow, Marie is going to be our hostess for our monthly challenge. This card fits her challenge. Can you guess what it is? Be sure to stop by the Tombow blog tomorrow and play along with us.

Pinned It Made It Monday

This pin is courtesy of my 21 year old son. He sent me a link to a birthday cake he wanted me to make for him... Chocolate Turtle Cake. He refuses to go to Pinterest, but I pinned the link he sent me, so now it IS on Pinterest. Ü The recipe calls for a cake mix, but he wondered if it would be "too hard" to make a German chocolate cake from scratch. So I headed to Pinterest and found THIS one.

We had to celebrate his birthday a week early on the 16th (his bd is the 23rd) as he was headed back to college the next day. Hard to believe he is going to be a senior! But he is far from being done with school, since med school will be next. I sent all that was left over with him.

Just a personal note: As of Friday we are now empty nesters...we do NOT like it! I cried on the way home, most of Saturday (sobbing really as I was walking, the people I met probably thought I was loony). It is not fun. I KNOW that this is what we raised them for, it is not natural to not leave home, but 21 years of our lives has been wrapped around our boys. We love having our kids close. We are so very proud of the young men they have become and love them very much. We are just very lonely right now.

On a happier note...Benjamin is engaged! We could not be happier. Kassy is a sweetheart and we are so excited and blessed to have her join our family. She asked if I would help with some of their wedding plans, so I will be busy doing that...which is a VERY good thing!

One more note...I did not go back to school. Lots of factors played into that decision. It was very hard, but after making it, a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders, so I know I did the right thing. Where do I go from here? Not sure. Right now I am delivering meals on wheels part time and we will see where God leads next.

BFB For Every Season

For Every Season, Amish Vines and Orchards Series #3 -
        By: Cindy Woodsmall
click on the photo above to read an excerpt from the book

"For Every Season" is Cindy Woodsmall's 3rd book in the Amish Vines and Orchards series. I didn't realize that this wasn't a triology and now have to wait until April before the next book comes out!

The story continues as Rhoda "sees" more of the mystery around her friends son. Rather than her boyfriend always being there when she needs him the most, it is his brother Samuel. This causes friction with her and Jacob. Jacobs life is messed up with his bosses wife and daughter. Leah is thinking of leaving the Amish faith.

So many twists and turns make this another great book. It is going to be hard to wait until April to learn what happens next. Ü

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

Pinned It Made It Monday

...on Tuesday. Ü The 3rd Monday of the month, 2 friends and I host a ladies nite out. We have food, devotion, games/craft, etc. Last nite was our kick off and the theme was Fruit of the Spirit.

I did the meat & punch. I made Cranberry Meatballs, Ham Balls with Pineapple Glaze, Apricot Chicken Wings, and Frozen Fruit Punch.

The Cranberry Meatballs recipe I originally found in a Taste of Home magazine a few years ago and have made it several times whenever I needed to take an appetizer.

I bought frozen chicken wings I had to bake in the oven and then added the Apricot Glaze half way thru the cooking process, then put in crockpot on low until ready to serve. I LOVED this glaze and will be making it many times more to use on chicken breast, probably the ham balls and who knows what else. LOL!

 Hamballs with Pineapple Glaze.
 Here is my hamball recipe:
1 1/2 lbs. ham
1/2 lb. fresh pork
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/2 c. milk
3/4 c. cracker crumbs

Grind together ham and fresh pork. combine ground meat, eggs, milk, and cracker crumbs. Form into balls of desired size. Place in baking dish; cover and bake 30 minutes at 350°. Remove from oven; drain grease if necessary and add sauce. I then put this in the crockpot on low til ready to serve.

Here are some pictures of the food table:

For dessert, my friend made sugar cookies and we made our own fruit pizzas. They were a huge hit!

This was perfect as it ended up being a very hot day.

What Once Was Lost

click on the photo to read chapter one

Christina Willems works on a Kansas farm at the Brambleville Asylum for the Poor with children and adults who are poor and "displaced". After a fire, she has to find homes for each of the people in the home.

She asks Levi Johnson to take a blind boy Tommy. Levi is considered a reclusive mill owner, but the two develop a bond quickly.

Christina is faced with all kinds of challenges and begins to doubt her calling. She finds an ally in Levi as she faces her adversaries.

I have been a fan of Kim Vogel Sawyers books and this one was no exception. I highly recommend reading this book.

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

Mr. Bumbly's Daisy

**If you are here for the Tombow/Core'dinations hop go HERE

On the Inky Antics' blog today, we are featuring 10987MC Bumbly Bees Clear Set drawn by one of my favorite artists Tammy DeYoung.

I colored the image with Irojiten Colored Pencils and blended with Gamsol. I added flocking for the center of the flowers, plus a white gel pen to add dots to the flowers and Mr. Bumbly's cheeks. Glitter for the wings, paper pieced the overalls, and made French knots for the little swirly flowers and center of little flowers to add texture.

I even decorated the inside. I used flocking where the holes were on the cut sentiment, since I didn't want the bulk of brad on the inside of the card.

Be sure to stop by the Inky Antics' blog today to see other projects using this stamp set.

Pinned It Made It Monday

I have another zucchini recipe to share. Will probably be sharing MANY of them as they keep reproducing almost faster than I can keep up with them.

This one, I really liked, but DH not so much. I think it may be because of the Italian seasoning. 1 Tablespoon is a bit much, but I still like it. I also made the onion dip. It was okay, but I think marinara sauce would have been better.

Tombow Hops with Core'dinations

We are blog hopping with Core’dinations ColorCore Cardstock this week! I hope you are ready from some Fun Ideas and Great Prizes this week from Tombow and Core’dinations.

If you're here from the Tombow Blog, then you’re in the right place,  if not then you may want to start at the beginning.  For my creation/project today, I created this card using Core'dinations cardstock from their Shattered Kraft Core and Pastels Core Essential collections.

To create this card I tore 3 circles of the Shattered Kraft Core cardstock, gently "squished" and wrinkled it and then sanded it using their Sand It Kit. I did the same with the leaves...no pattern, just tore, then folded in half and sanded. I adhered the flower and leaves with Mono Adhesive Power Bond.

I finished the card with patterned paper (using Mono Adhesive Permanent to adhere to card base), ribbon, button (using a Power Tab), and a together sticker that I think I got at Target years ago.

Now, it's time to hop over to Clare Buswell's  blog and check out her lovely creation for this hop.

Pinned It Made It Monday

Last week was cherries, this week zucchini. LOTS of zucchini! We have eaten quite a bit. My son and his fiancé planted our garden. He wanted to know how much of everything to plant. When it came to zucchini and cucumbers, I had told him one, two at the MOST of zucchini and a row of cucumbers. Can you see where this is going??? He did the opposite. So I have one loney plant of cucumbers that I have now harvest 3 of and a row of the most beautiful zucchini plants you ever saw that are reproducing faster than I can work them. LOL!

So to the Pinterest board I went searching for zucchini recipes. We have eaten THIS 3 times that I found a recipe somewhere last year and it's as yummy as I remember.

I have also made these 3 recipes for zucchini cake and bread. Because we haven't gotten a new stove yet, I am still using our toaster oven so for the cake, made them in little bread pans.

Chocolate Zucchini Cake I made one batch like it said and another using 1 cup of peanut butter instead of 1 cup of oil. Both were very yummy, but I think I liked the peanut butter version better.

Carrot Zucchini Cake that I made into muffins. Another wonderful recipe.

Mom's Zucchini Bread (not my mom, just the name of the recipe) DH esp liked this bread, esp since it had nuts in it.

Zucchini Muffins I used dried cranberries, and this was one of my favorites.

I also made these and will make again. I forgot to take a picture of mine. They were very yummy.
